April Cushing

April Cushing has been an active member of St. Matthew's CCO. St Matthew's Community Creating Oppurtunity (CCO) neighborhood cleanups in the fall have been part of April's dedication to our need for service. April is always a part of the planning and working of these major events

April served on the committee to establish the needs for the HARP grant on the Community Advisory Committee. The process was aided by CCO. Four neighborhoods would recieve funding for a portion of the grant to fund 20-30 homes in each neighborhood. Ruskin Neighborhoods did not have an experience CDC at the time. April worked very hard to learn how to pre-qualify and advise owners in application for these grants. She was key in securing KC HARP grants for homeowners in the Ruskin neighborhoods. A job that was performed by other neighborhoods CDC's. April fought to make sure that our area recieved all the grants for home improvement. Our neighborhood not only had its quota before other neighborhoods, but had a list of valid applications to fill in any vacancies should other neighborhoods not fill their quota. Ruskin Heights Homes Association was very proud of the work that she and Ellen Cook successfully made the KC HARP program work for our community. She worked with people to insure that the forms and process was done correctly and delivered them in person to City Hall. When there is a problem in our area people call April for help.

Continue interaction between the Community and the School District.

With the changes that will occur in the next school year. It is important to have a representative that knows the community and the area. April has years of work helping people solve their problems. She is the right person for the CS-1 Hickman Mills School Board.
