My most important duty in life is being a mother of three and a grandmother of two.  I attended school in the Hickman Mills School District and have lived off and on in this community.  I have not only been a strong supporter of the Hickman Mills School District, but have been very active in resolving and enhancing the needs of the community.

  1. I am running because I believe that I can bring a positive outlook to the board, be a team player, help assist with working with legislators to enhance the needs of our school district.
  1. Now that the decision has been made we need to unite and move forward for the best interest of the district and our students.
  1. To continue the focus groups with all that’s involved (i.e., students, parents, faculty, etc.) and to approach positively with enthusiasm to achieve a new school pride.
  1. Safety has been an ongoing issue for CSD-1 in the past few years. With several students being shot and only 3% of secondary students reporting that they feel safe in school.

  a.  Increase/enforce discipline policies  in ALL school buildings;
  b. Enforce the dress code and be consistent for school pride and self worth;
  c. Zero tolerance strictly enforced.

  1. I will continue to study the policies and ensure that they are being enforced; continue the transparency approach to the community; make sure that I hear all sides of the issues to ensure fair and due process.
  1. Accreditation and showing bench marks of improvement on all of our evaluation methods.

                                                            Respectfully,

                                                            April Cushing,
                                                           CSD-1 School Board Candidate
